Our History
The Broadfield Family, Jane, Jimmy, Lyndsey, and Kelsey, moved to Trumansburg from New Jersey in 2008. After a visit to the Finger Lakes to see family friends, they absolutely fell in love with the area’s beautiful scenery, nature, and kind people. Though many of their family and friends thought they were crazy for making such a big change, the family of four moved to Tburg with horses, cats, dogs, and even reptiles in tow! Since then, they have very much enjoyed their life in the Finger Lakes. Both Lyndsey and Kelsey graduated from Trumansburg Central School District and along with their parents, have stayed very involved in the community. After graduating with her Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Cortland, Lyndsey went on to work in the Trumansburg Middle School, finding her passion for teaching and pursuing her Masters in Education, finishing in June of 2021. Jane spent many years working in Trumansburg High School before committing herself full time to Trimmers and Jim works for Superior Plus Energy, delivering propane. After graduating from Bennington College in 2020, Kelsey has dedicated herself to helping her mom with the family business, expanding on the role she took working at Trimmers through college and running the social media from afar!
So you might be wondering… how did the Broadfield family end up owning Trimmers Ice Cream? During her high school years, Lyndsey worked at Trimmers during the summers. She really enjoyed serving ice cream and made connections with many long-time Trimmers customers. Jane has a deep history in the restaurant industry and an even deeper love for food and serving people! Jane worked in countless restaurants, owned her own luncheonette in New Jersey, and worked for food distributors in the Finger Lakes area… let's just say she was more than ready to own her own business again and to be able to run it with her family! When the Broadfield family saw the opportunity to take over Trimmers Ice Cream there was no way they could turn it down. It seemed to be the perfect fit for them and in April of 2017, they excitedly purchased the business!
The first season, they devoted themselves to getting to know the world of ice cream and their customers, keeping many things the same and diving deep into the business. As a family they worked together, learning the (surprisingly complicated) art of making ice cream cones, milkshakes, and sundaes from Lyndsey. Though it was challenging at times, they find that each ice cream season is more rewarding than the last. Together the Broadfields strive to keep the atmosphere at Trimmer's fun and inviting and they treat their staff members as an extension of their close-knit family. Since taking over Trimmers, they have worked to improve and grow their business, adding many new menu items, making improvements to the building/property, and deepening their relationship with the surrounding communities, their customers, and each other. The Broadfields continue to dedicate themselves to the community, providing scholarships to graduating seniors at both Trumansburg and South Seneca High Schools and donating the proceeds of their Sunday Sundaes to various organizations and causes. In 2019, Trimmers Ice Cream was chosen as the Trumansburg Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year, a huge honor that they treasure to this day!
